Project Management Institute announced in July 2019 that the PMP exam will be updated in December of this year. PMI states that the update is needed to ensure the exam reflects up-to-date practices and equips project managers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today's modern project environments.
Every three to five years, PMI conducts research to understand how the profession has progressed, the impact of emerging trends, and how the responsibilities of project managers have changed. The last time PMI did this research was in 2015 and resulted in the current version of the PMP exam.
